Female Skull Studies for Crimson Daggers Mentoring with Shyam Shriram!
I’m doing an online mentoring program taught by the awesome Shyam Shriram.
The classes are held over at the Crimson Daggers forum here.
The whole initiative was setup by Daniel Warren and Dave Rapoza (the creators of the forum). If you haven’t heard of it before and would like to join in with improving your art skills then you can learn about the Crimson Daggers here. All abilities are welcome as we’re all about improving ourselves artistically.
So these are my first studies I’ve completed for the first assignment:
The full assignment is this (I’ve only finished the first part!):
10 Female Skull Drawings – please spend more time on the construction, only line drawings.
10 Female Skull Paintings (Black & White, no need to render too much, just concentrate on the construction and values/tones)
5 Master copies

Just a couple of study sheets and final Ned
Getting more confident with my gestures and feel less stressed about doing them. They’re fun to do and when a pose inspires me when I’m doing a set of 2 minute gestures, I’ll pause my reference photo slideshow and add some anatomy and values. This is a daily thing now and it feels good!
Also I’ve been updating old sites like deviantArt and my conceptart.org sketchbook so I’ll add links to all of the places I’m actively posting work to at the moment. It’s all from here though!
I forgot to upload this one!

Angry Self Portrait and Gesture Studies
Focused on planes of the body and head tonight. I’m trying to increase my speed at the moment. Made a nice brush for quick sharp-to-soft lay-in. It rotates with pen tilt too so it feels like a nice flat hog hair brush without the bristle scratches! Self portrait was around 2 hours and the lunging dude was around 20 minutes.

Composition Generation and Ideas!
Stuff from last few days. Working on pushing my work from imagination and finding ways to boost it focusing on abstract composition and value shapes first to define and inspire direction for a piece. I’ve practiced generating ideas for whimsical stuff and then taking an idea and producing different compositions based off a thumbnail idea. It’s really fun fun fun! Let’s paint a happy little warrior girl!
These are studies and idea’s to develop:
